- Develop a mechanism for KCC counselors to learn more about sustainability initiatives (i.e., activities, occupations, non-credit training, hybrid credentials) being shared throughout the UH system;
- Create opportunities for KCC counselors to attend webinars which provide insight on the (non-age specific) characteristics of “non-traditional” students in the 21st century;
- Create opportunities for KCC counselors to attend (NACADA/ACA) conferences or workshops that focus on providing academic advising and counseling for students during down economic times;
- Develop a mechanism to record and update student services-related policies which will enable KCC counselors to keep informed of policy changes and updates;
- Establish campus-wide initiative that will provide career exploration opportunities for KCC students via the “Dependable Strengths” (career exploration) workshop as well as facilitator-led programs as offered at the University of Washington (see www.careers.washington.edu).
- Include “Dependable Strength” workshop as training for all new KCC counselors;
- Develop a mechanism for KCC counselors, KCC students and the parents of KCC students to learn more about KCC policies relative to FERPA.
- Create opportunity for KCC counselors to obtain clarification from UH Legal Counsel regarding their duties relative to FERPA regulations with questions to be posed in advance to UH Legal Counsel;
- Develop mechanism for KCC counselors to obtain updates on the initiatives and funding via the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009;
- Create a mechanism for KCC counselors to obtain updates on KCC-sponsored scholarships.
